Florida Power and Light
Florida Power and Light (FPL) is the largest electric utility in Florida and one of the largest rate-regulated utilities in the United States.

On June 24, 2008, FPL signed an agreement with NASA that authorized construction of FPL’s Space Coast Next Generation Solar Energy Center. The facility, which was completed and commissioned in 2010, features 35,000 highly efficient solar photovoltaic panels from SunPower Corporation on 60 acres of land just outside of the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) gates. It generates power to more than 1,000 homes and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 227,000 tons. FPL also has created a smaller solar energy utility facility at KSC that produces one- megawatt of energy and provides approximately 1% of KSC’s power needs. Former U.S. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas praised the cooperative agreement, saying, “This joint effort between NASA and FPL is an example of how we can create jobs while investing in common-sense solutions to the economic, environmental and national challenges we face today.
